Hi, I’m Ian Knight, aka ASTROISK, an English amateur astrophotographer living in North Holland. My passion lies in capturing the wonders of the night sky through deep sky, solar, lunar, and planetary astrophotography.
By day, I am a career ICT professional. I spend many hours developing scripts and tools to assist with my astrophotography. If you want to know more about ASTROISK, feel free to explore my blog and learn about my journey.
Challenges
Living in the Netherlands presents its own set of challenges for astrophotography. The often cloudy skies and light pollution mean that opportunities to photograph the night sky can be rare and fleeting. However, these challenges have only fuelled my determination to make the most of every clear night. I also advocate for the preservation of dark skies.
Mission
A core part of my mission is to make astrophotography accessible to everyone, regardless of budget. I believe that the magic of the night sky should be within reach of all, not just those who can afford high-end equipment. To that end, I’m committed to promoting and developing open and free software. I also explore the use of inexpensive computing hardware, with a particular focus on the Raspberry Pi 5 and supporting software. By sharing knowledge and tools, I hope to empower others to explore the cosmos without breaking the bank!

Community
I’m a member of the British Astronomical Association, where I connect with fellow enthusiasts and contribute to the broader astronomical community. Through this membership, I stay engaged with the latest developments in the field. Therefore, I continue to learn from some of the best minds in astronomy.
Thank you for visiting my site. I hope you find inspiration in the wonders of the universe just as I do. If you have any questions about ASTROISK, feel free to reach out.
Clear skies!
